Big Steps for Small Feet: Ben Nevis Night Climb

New for 2020, this bespoke event will bring together 10 charities to climb Ben Nevis at night to raise awareness of baby and child loss.

"Losing a child is an unimaginable pain. A time where you can feel very alone in a big world. We will walk together and talk together, no mountain too tall as we aim for our stars on the week before Father's Day. We may not be able to stop the downpour, but we will all walk with you in the rain." - Michael, Anam Cara Fasgadh

This June we’re taking on Ben Nevis at night, taking Big Steps for Small Feet. We hope to give those who need it the chance to walk and talk together, scaling new heights to unite and raise money for charities working to support bereaved families every day.

Big Steps for Small Feet is a chance for our charities to unite as one, in togetherness and hope, raising awareness for a cause that is close to each and every one of us. It's an opportunity to show the world that collectively we can make a difference.

About the Climb

Ben Nevis (‘Mountain of Heaven’) is the highest point in Scotland and the British Isles, standing at the lofty height of 1343m (roughly 4,000ft).

Reaching the summit of this mountain is a long, arduous uphill trek. Undertaking it at night is an unforgettable and arduous challenge, with our way lit only by the moon and our torches. We set off around sunset (22.14 is actual sunset) and should be heading off the summit to experience the sunrise (twilight start 03.20, sunrise 04.27)

As we descend, we can see the spectacular landscapes open up before us as the day grows lighter. We celebrate our huge achievement with a slap-up breakfast!

What your registration fee & tour cost includes:

  • Hot drinks before and after the event
  • A buffet hot meal before the trek begins
  • A cooked breakfast after descent
  • Support from experienced guides during the climb
  • Access to the Big Steps for Small Feet facebook group
  • Support from the Bliss events team to help with your fundraising
  • Coach transfer to and from Glasgow Central Station*

*If you would prefer to make your own travel arrangements to get to Fort William, you can opt-out of the coach travel provided by Discover Adventure when you book onto this event.

Why take part in Big Steps for Small Feet?

We hope this will be a special event, the first bespoke event that Discover Adventure have organised to fundraise for multiple charities.

By taking part you will help raise awareness of the support needed for families who have experienced baby loss. As the cost of the event is fully covered by everyone's registration fees, we know that whatever you raise in sponsorship will come to Bliss - helping us continue to provide information and support for families on neonatal units, and campaign for better bereavement care across the UK.

What other charities are taking part?

This bespoke trek has been organised by Anam Cara Fasgadh, Bliss, Child Bereavement UK, The Lullaby Trust, Sands, SANDS Lothians, STAR for Harris, Together for Short Lives, Tommy's and Twins Trust.

Our tour operator is Discover Adventure.
