What will the Review process look like?
The review will be steered by Giulia Bonacalza, Bliss Baby Charter Review Lead, and managed in collaboration with the Bliss Baby Charter team, healthcare professionals from across the MDT and parents/carers.
Specifically, we will be supported by an Oversight Group of around 5 parents/carers and around 6 Healthcare Professionals (HCPs). This group will be supported in the review by thematic experts who will review specific sections of the Baby Charter, according to their area of expertise.
The aim of the Oversight Group is to guide the review process. The group will assess feedback and suggestions made by the Bliss team and thematic experts, provide input themselves, and support making decisions on the updated content of the Baby Charter.
The thematic experts will support with the review of the following areas (to be fully confirmed):
- Developmental Care
- Palliative Care and Bereavement
- AHP Provision
- Feeding
- Discharge
- Outreach
The psychosocial standards of the Bliss Baby Charter (2.3A, 2.3B and 2.3C) were last reviewed in 2024, therefore they won’t be part of this review.
How long will the review take?
The content review runs from July 2025 to July 2026.
We are looking for experts who have vast knowledge and experience of one or more of the areas identified:
One of the main goals of the review is to embed health inequality more thoroughly within the Baby Charter, to help measure quality for neonatal units. Therefore, thematic experts will be also selected based on their experience of and confidence to talk to this area, as well as their expertise in the thematic area more broadly, and their understanding of Family Integrated Care. Ensuring diversity of views will also be a core criterion for recruitment. Having a solid understanding of the current Baby Charter and having been engaged with the process will also be beneficial, but is not essential.
Some thematic expert reviewers will be approached based on expertise and pre-existing relationships and invited to contribute. However, if you think you can contribute meaningfully to one of the areas to review listed above, we would strongly encourage you to also express your interest to work with us.
We expect the time contribution to vary considerably, depending on the area to review. This will be discussed individually prior to commencing the review work. The work will involve reviewing some of the current standards of the Baby Charter according to up to date practice, and meeting with the Baby Charter Review Lead to discuss these. Depending on the area to review, we expect to conduct 1 or 2 meetings online of up to 2 hours max.
Are there funds available to help me participate?
We understand that healthcare professionals might face some barriers that might prevent them from being able to take part in the Baby Charter Review. We want to remove these barriers as much as possible. As such, Bliss has made some funds available to enable full participation and we would warmly encourage anyone to reach out to [email protected] if they’d like to discuss how this could enable them to participate more easily.
How do I express an interest in this project and what happens next?
If you hold an expertise in one of the above areas and this project sounds like something you are keen to participate in, please complete the expression of interest at the bottom of this page. We will be in touch with shortlisted healthcare professionals for an informal conversation before selecting the expert(s) that will support us with each of the thematic areas.
We will be reviewing areas at different points of the year so please do get in touch as soon as possible by completing the below form if you would like to support this work.
