Tu at Sainsbury's release their first clothing range for premature babies

Posted on October 12, 2020

Tu at Sainsbury's are launching a new range of clothes specially designed for premature babies, as part of a new partnership to support Bliss’ vital work for babies in neonatal care.

The new Baby Tu Premature range is Sainsbury’s smallest baby clothing range, suitable for babies from 2lbs to 4lbs, and will help parents to feel confident dressing their baby.

The range is machine washable up to 95 degrees, making it suitable for washing at the hospital and features hook and loop fastening to make dressing easier. The pieces are made from super soft cotton and have soft flat seams that will sit comfortably against delicate new-born skin.

Caroline Lee-Davey, Chief Executive of Bliss said: "We are delighted that Tu at Sainsbury's are launching a new premature baby clothing range. Babies in neonatal care have the best outcomes when their parents are actively involved in their care - and being able to dress their baby is just one of the ways parents can be involved. We are so grateful that Tu have partnered with Bliss on this range to support our vital work for premature and sick babies."

The collection comprises hats, bodysuits and sleepsuits which are available in a variety of colours and fun prints including dino, floral and safari, giving parents of premature babies greater choice when choosing their babies’ first outfit.

Gina, mum to Oliver born at 32+4 weeks, said: "On day six, our favourite nurses Bernie and Pru gave me the most amazing news that Oliver would be moved into the nursery into a heated cot and that I could finally dress him. It was so unexpected that I had to pop home and get the freshly washed premature baby grows that we’d bought. It felt so surreal being able to lift Oliver out of the incubator with no tubes or wires, apart from an oxygen monitor attached to his foot, and dress this tiny human."

The range is available online at tu.co.uk and in selected Sainsbury's stores from 11 October 2020.

I walked in one day and saw her in a bassinet and in clothes, rather than just a nappy. I broke down into happy tears. From then we were allowed to dress, feed and change her.
