Bliss Champion Coady Dorman has been nominated as a Charity Champion finalist at the Scottish Charity Awards 2018.

After her son Matthew was delivered 11 weeks early, Coady Dorman decided to dedicate her life to do what she can to help premature and sick babies and their families. A make-up artist by day, Coady volunteers as a Bliss Champion at St John’s Hospital in Livingston in her free time. In this role, she helps support and comfort parents’ at the most traumatic time of their lives.

Coady is an avid campaigner and addressed politicians at the launch of the Bliss Baby Report Scotland 2017 at Holyrood. Coady and Bliss were both thrilled at the end of 2017 when the Scottish Government announced a £1.5 million Neonatal Expenses Fund after our campaigning.

In addition to this, Coady has raised thousands of pounds in her local community for Bliss Scotland by organising events such as fundraising walks and afternoon teas.

Chief Executive of Bliss Scotland, Caroline Lee-Davey, said: “We are thrilled that Coady’s hard work and dedication is being recognised. Around 20 per cent of our events fundraisers have come from West Lothian in the 2017-18 financial year. This is largely due to Coady’s work having raised the profile of Bliss Scotland with her local council, MP and MSPs, local businesses, media and the community and from people’s appreciation of her compassion and empathy when they meet her on the neonatal unit. We cannot thank her enough for all she does for us.”

Coady Dorman said: “Over two years ago I started my voluntary work with Bliss Scotland. Before then I never really felt I had found my role in life, seeing friends so passionate about their work but not finding much in mine. Then I became a Bliss Champion and felt I suddenly had a role and purpose, with the whole Bliss team feeling like they had become a huge extended family to me and my son Matthew who was born at 29 weeks. It fills me with immense pride when I get to represent Bliss Scotland and be a voice for the babies and families we support.”

You can vote for Coady to win the award here. Votes must be cast before 18 May 2018.

Award winners will be announced on 14 June 2018.
