Marie Bailey is a mum from Wylde Green, Sutton Coldfield. In 2006 her daughter Lily was born three months premature. Lily is a healthy eight year old now, but since then, Marie has been fundraising for Bliss, the UK’s special care baby charity. Recently Marie held a fundraising event called Lily’s Ball for the sixth year in a row, and the money raised from that means she has now raised over £50,000 for Bliss.
The most recent Lily’s Ball took place on Saturday 4 October 2014 at the Ramada Hotel in Sutton Coldfield. Around 300 of Sutton Coldfield’s best and brightest attended the Hollywood themed event, with dinner, dancing, a casino and a raffle. In total the night raised around £11,620 from ticket sales and donations which, added to the amounts raised from Marie’s five previous Lily’s Ball, means that she has amazingly raised over £50,000 for Bliss in six years.
Marie says: “When Lily was born, Bliss helped me and my husband Richard so much. Their support was amazing and helped us to stay positive during the nine weeks Lily had to stay in hospital. That’s why I raise money for them, so they can help other families in similar situations.”
“I enjoy the organising and get so much satisfaction knowing I’m raising money and everyone is having such a fabulous time too. The evening was amazing, emotional but great fun too. I feel it went better than I planned and I'm already getting people asking me about next year’s!”
Bliss’ Events Officer Frances Llewellyn says: “The dedication Marie has shown by organising Lily’s Ball for six years in a row has amazed everyone at Bliss. She has raised an incredible amount of money and we are hugely grateful to her.”
