Making sure that parents feel supported can be an important part of helping them be at the centre of their baby’s care, and help them cope with providing care for their baby, on the unit or at home, or in the case of bereavement.
Parent information and support app
South West Midlands Maternity and Newborn Network
The South West Midlands Maternity and Newborn Network have created an app, designed in coordination with parents and the Bliss Family-Centred Care Nurse, to provide information on all the hospitals, to support parents when they first arrive and if they are transferred. It includes directions to the hospital, where the neonatal unit is situated and visiting policies, as well as links for parent support information and feedback pages for all the hospitals.
The app is available to download free from the Apple store and for Android devices from Google Play.
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
Norfolk and Norwich's new welcome pack for families provides parents with information about the hospital, unit facilities and additional support available on the unit and from local charities, hospices and the chaplaincy team. It also offers a place for parents to write down their thoughts and memories of the experience, and for staff to note down when different pieces of parent-craft training have been undertaken, to ensure that parents are given all the tools they need to take care of their baby.
Bliss also helps support parents in a variety of ways, from our helpline and Bliss volunteers offering support on and off the unit to Bliss Nurses. If you would like to know more about how we can help you support parents on your unit, please get in touch.
