Going home

Baby asleep

Preparing to bring your baby home can cause great happiness and anxiety at the same time. You may have got used to always having people around on the unit to ask questions and talk to.

It is normal to feel a bit anxious. Remember though that your baby is coming home because they are well enough to leave the unit, and the staff are confident that you can now be the sole carers for your baby. You will have ongoing support from your health visitor and your GP.

For more information, download our Going home factsheet here.

For further information, you can also download our booklet Going home - The next big step

In addition, we have launched the second version of our Going home pack. The new Going home pack will be available in units from July 2010, so please make sure that you speak to a member of staff at the unit before you take your baby home. If you have recently been discharged, you may also be able to contact your unit to request a pack.

The Going home pack contains a huge range of useful information which should help you as you make that important transition to caring for your baby at home. For more information please visit the Going home pack page.
