Why I’m cycling Prudential RideLondon

10 May 2014

My name is Pete, and I am a cyclist.

There! Confession over, glad to get that off my chest…

Welcome to my blog charting the ups, downs, aches and pains of my journey to the Prudential RideLondon 100, all in the name of raising funds for Bliss.

Why Bliss? A few reasons. My wife Kathryn is a neonatal intensive care nurse, and is very familiar with the work Bliss does. She and my son went on the ‘Little Lights’ walk in London last year.

Secondly, talking of my son, I’m lucky. Sam, age eight, was born with no real problems (well, apart from being born ten days late!). However, due to a possible eye infection, we had to stay a few days longer in hospital after he was born.

A week later, Sam was back in due to weight loss. In the big scheme of things, neither problem was too serious, but I remember how stressful it was at the time. I know friends who’ve had much bigger issues, much more stress and they have first-hand experience of the work Bliss does.

Thirdly, I love riding my bike. I definitely cycle far more miles than I drive in a year. What could be better than riding on closed roads (a luxury in the UK) through the beautiful Surrey Hills (I reserve the right to use a different adjective to describe the Surrey Hills, once I’ve actually ridden up them!) with thousands of like-minded cyclists, all whilst raising money for a fantastic cause.

Finally, and most importantly, the Bliss blue top I will be wearing is a lovely colour (although, sadly it doesn’t match my bike’s colour scheme…)

So if you can get out to support on the day it will be very welcome. Even better, if you can spare some sponsorship money, then please click on my “just giving” link below.

As the official Charity of the Year for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, Bliss is the only place in the world where you can still register for this iconic 100 mile ride on closed roads.

You have until noon on 16 May to join team Bliss and you’ll also be in with the chance of winning an amazing VIP experience where three Bliss riders will get to meet and train with Laura Trott as well as other fantastic once in a lifetime prizes!
