Today the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCB) has published an updated framework giving doctors ethical and legal guidance on making very difficult decisions about end of life care for children and babies.
Bliss Chief Executive Caroline Davey said, “We welcome this updated framework to support decision-making in the very challenging area of end of life care for children and babies. Bliss supports the principle that decisions should be made on a case by case basis, in the best interests of the child, and in partnership between the medical team and the parents. Parents must be given all the information and support they need to make an informed decision that is in the best interest of their child.”
The framework sets out three areas for considering limiting treatment because it is no longer in the childs best interest.
