NHS England has today (Thursday 3 March) announced plans to have a review of the commissioning of NHS maternity services. The review will assess current maternity care provision and consider how services should be developed to meet the changing needs of women and babies.
Bliss welcomes this review and the implications it will have for premature and sick babies. CEO Caroline Davey said: "One in nine babies born in the UK will need specialist care, so it's vital that maternity services work closely with neonatal units to deliver seamless care for these families. We welcome this review, and urge NHS England to ensure that it covers the need for maternity services to join up with specialist services in sufficient detail."
