RideLondon Charity of the Year

15 January 2014

Bliss is thrilled to have been appointed as the first Prudential RideLondon Charity of the Year.

More than 160 charities applied to become Charity of the Year of the Mayor of London’s annual festival of cycling. Six were shortlisted to present plans to a selection panel, with Bliss coming out on top.

We will receive a wide-ranging package of benefits and support to assist the charity to maximise its fundraising efforts around the event. These include 100 guaranteed places in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday 10 August.

Bliss is fundraising to support their Bliss Nurses programme that will create a lasting difference to the lives of tens of thousands of special care babies and their families around the UK. Bliss Nurses provide direct support to families at a time they need it most through the very difficult and challenging experience of their baby being in special care.

The fundraising potential of Prudential RideLondon was shown after the event raised over £7 million for charitable causes in its first year, setting a new record for a UK charity cycling event, and organisers expect a significant increase to that figure in 2014.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Prudential RideLondon isn’t just a fantastic festival of cycling, it’s also an event that’s raised millions for charity. As Charity of the Year for 2014, Bliss will receive 100 guaranteed places, which I’m sure will help to provide a real boost for what is a very worthy cause indeed.”

“We were very impressed with the legacy aspect of the plans Bliss has for the funds raised through Prudential RideLondon,” says Event Director Hugh Brasher. “Our aim with the event is to build a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games and the Bliss Nurses programme matches this.”

Andy Cole, Chief Executive, Bliss, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as the first Prudential RideLondon Charity of the Year. The money raised will enable us to provide vital help and support to many thousands of babies and thier families around the UK to make sure they have the very best start in life.”
