Thursday 9 October marks the beginning of Baby Loss Awareness Week, a time for people whose lives have been touched by the death of a baby to acknowledge and remember them. It is also a chance to raise awareness of the emotional impact of pregnancy loss and infant loss.
The campaign is led by Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal charity, who will be organising remembrance services across the country with the help of parents and local Sands support groups. They will also be hosting fundraising events and wearing Baby Loss Awareness pins in memory of their babies.
At the end of the week on Wednesday 15 October, which is also Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness day, an international ‘Wave of Light’ will take place. This will involve people all over the world lighting a candle and burning it for one hour at 7pm, in a poignant and special tribute to babies who lit up so many lives for such a short time.
Bliss is one of many charities supporting the campaign alongside The Miscarriage Association, ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices), The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, The Lullaby Trust, and Group B Strep Support.
If you would like a lasting and positive way to remember your loved one this Baby Loss Awareness Week, Bliss can offer Precious Star Funds. This is a personalised tribute fund which you can choose to donate however much you like, and will be there for as long as you want it. If you already have one, why not light a candle on your memorial page and join the ‘Wave of Light.’
