Donate to double our volunteers in hospitals
Donate today to give parents of premature and sick babies the support they need to care for their baby in hospital.
All too often, parents of premature and sick babies are left without the support they need to confidently care for their baby in hospital.
“My husband and I were both a mess. I cried and cried and cried.” - Lauren
“As soon as Harry was born, weighing a tiny 870g, he was whisked away in his incubator and suddenly the pain and noise was gone. I lay in the quiet feeling completely lost and empty.” - Stephanie
“Leaving Ben was so difficult – no matter how long we stayed with him we always felt incredibly guilty whenever we weren’t there.” - Simon
Bliss volunteers provide crucial support to families who are facing one of the most difficult times of their lives. They offer comfort, reassurance and, most importantly, the key information parents need to look after their poorly baby when they are in hospital.
Help us make sure every parent has access to this vital support.
Research shows when parents are supported to get involved in their baby’s care on the neonatal unit, their baby has a better chance of survival and quality of life. Bliss believe every baby deserves this.
“Thanks to Bliss I got through everything better than I expected. We had a lady called Liz at our local hospital - she would bring gifts and food for all the parents, and she would be there for a chat whenever we needed. It was lovely to talk to someone who knows what you’re going through.” – Maxine
There are almost 200 neonatal units across the UK, and at the time of this appeal Bliss volunteers are only available in 55 of these units. Sadly, this means most families are not getting the support we know is vital to improve outcomes for their babies.
To tackle this we want to double the number of Bliss volunteers in units by April 2018. But we can’t do this without your help.
Even the smallest gift you can afford will help us reach more babies and families when they need it most.
For each £1,000 we raise, we can recruit, train and support a new volunteer this year.
With your donation, we will be one step closer to our goal of having volunteers in all neonatal units, who can provide parents with quality information and specialist emotional support – and most importantly, give vulnerable babies a better start in life.
Georgia became a Bliss volunteer following her own experiences as a first time mum on a unit.
"It was the hardest time of my life. I spent so many nights sitting by the incubator crying, thinking about what I could have done better to stop everything that had happened."
It wasn't until Georgia got information from Bliss that she said "all of a sudden I wasn't alone any more."
Since her experience, Georgia has become a Bliss volunteer herself and is passionate about making sure mums like her get the support and information they need - so that babies like her daughter Scarlett get the best care.
Ensure volunteers like Georgia continue to provide the best possible support to parents and their babies by donating today.
